Why Bob bumps off his bestie is also left to ones imagination. Whateva!! While Bob's character engages you primarily due to its strong preceedence, the overall screenplay has lot of loopholes with incomplete ends. There is a drug racket angle added to the plot with a blue coloured pill becoming a hit amongst students as it can increase their concentration for exams. Bob traces the person and shoots him down. A pic is sent on Bob's flip-top mobile with a name. Quickly enough, Bob is contacted by his ex- employer to get in to action and the modus operandi remains same as before. We aren't told what exactly happened to him but instead, get to meet his family comprising wife (Chitrangada Singh), son (Ronith Aurora) and step daughter (Samara Tijori). Bob is back home after suffering a memory loss in an accident. Bang!! The sheer scare created by this iconic hired assassin of Sujoy Ghosh's outstanding Kahaani (2012) lend itself to a spinoff which has arrived nine years after the original with Abhishek Bachchan replacing the extraordinary Saswata Chatterjee from Kahaani. The cinematography by Gairik Sarkar could have showcased the locales of Kolkata a bit betterīob Biswas review : "Namoshkar. Negatives - The story by Sujoy Ghosh could have been way better He has the best scenes and dialogues in the film, and hogs all the limelight. Despite barely five minutes of screen time, Kali Da manages to imprint his presence on the larger canvas of the film. Kali Da is one character in Bob Biswas that walks away with all the attention, much like Saswata Chatterjee's character did in Kahaani. A very special mention is needed for Paran Bandopadhyay's character of Kali Da. Newcomer Samara Tijori catches the eye as their burdened teenaged daughter, Mini. Bob Biswas, as depicted in this iteration of the character, is insipid, listless and downright boring. The fault, though, is not the actor's, but the writer's. Bachchan is sincere and earnest in his performance, but lacks the chillingly placid menace that Saswata Chatterjee exuded so effortlessly in Kahaani. Review By Kamal K Abhishek Bachchan brings his own unique take on the character of Bob Biswas, made iconic by Bengali actor Saswata Chatterjee in Kahaani. Also, no marks for guessing if Chitrangada Singh still sizzles!

Watch it as a standalone film, barring its umbilical connection to Kahaani, and it won't disappoint you SO MUCH! Heck, it might even be mildly entertaining. Having said all that, Bob Biswas isn't a total write-off. It even tries to be a bit of a desi John Wick, what with the explanation of sticking to rules in the world of gangsters, drugs, and assassins. I'd attribute much of that blame to the writing department. He gets the gentle, family man bits right, but the ruthless killer parts feel rather rushed and inorganic. On the other hand, AB gives Bob a different set of emotions before eventually transpiring into the cold-blooded, no-nonsense killer. He doesn't have to try to be intimidating he is a natural. In Kahaani, Saswata catches your attention even when he shows up for a few minutes and gets the job done before his character is written away. Comparing Abhishek Bachchan with Saswata Chatterjee is like comparing chalk and cheese. The rendering of Kali Da (by Paran Bandopadhyay) is also effective. Even memory loss can't hurt acquired skills.

There are infrequent bits of writing brilliance: the scene where Bob subconsciously connects the components of his silenced pistol is one such. Aside from the film's sober first act, which revisits Kolkata's low-key beauty, there's not much of the city playing its own character here.

Ghosh? Bob Biswas is his daughter Diya Annapurna Ghosh's directorial debut. So, it becomes easy to weed out the bad guys here. To amp up plot urgency (which is frequently slowed down by scenes where Bob reconnects with his family), a drug called "Blue" is introduced. So, even when the film begins with him recovering from an accident that leads to memory loss, we know that his past sins (and skills) will soon catch up to him. As we already know, Bob is a contract killer under the garb of an insurance agent. On the other hand, Bob Biswas plays out more like a family drama with a few elements added. It also got our brains to work, figuring out clues and unleashing our inner investigators.

The 2012 film by Sujoy Ghosh breathed new life into the city of Kolkata, revisiting its aesthetics for many filmmakers to follow in later years. There's a certain lack of plot in Bob Biswas, the character spin-off to Kahaani.
